The pen that bled through

It began with a shopping list that bled through onto the kitchen counter. Our founder kept a notepad by the phone, but the paper was so thin that every ballpoint stroke ghosted onto the sheet beneath — and a felt-tip went straight through to the wood. The cheap pads he bought curled at the corners within a day, shed their sheets when he tore one off, and had backing so flimsy he couldn’t write standing up. Hunting through shops across India turned up either see-through paper or expensive imported pads sold for the price of a book — so he started sourcing notepads and writing pads directly from paper mills and makers who actually understood grammage.

A good pad quietly does its job — paper thick enough to take any pen without bleeding, a clean perforation that tears without ripping, and a stiff board behind so you can write anywhere. Yet finding pads that were well-made, practical and fairly priced felt harder than it should be: thin, bleeding pads on one side, overpriced designer stationery on the other, with almost nothing for the students, clerks, and households who just want to jot a note that stays put. That gap — honest, reliable, sensibly priced paper and pads — is what we set out to fill.

Our Inspiration

After months of comparing mills across India — testing which pads use thick, bleed-resistant paper, which perforations tear clean, and which backing boards stay flat — began to select what would become our first Paper & Pads collection. The idea behind it is simple: a community of people who still think on paper, who value a sheet that behaves over a flashy cover, and who believe the pad on their desk should hold their ink, not soak through it.
